There’s nothing better we could do…

I interrupt this posting day to offer a remembrance of Michael Hutchence, who died 13 years ago today.

I chose this video even though it’s low quality, because it’s the image of him that’s been in my mind quite literally for 22 years. That jacket with the ruffled front, the roses tucked into his ponytail, that vibrance. That life. This is how I like to remember him.

Though I can’t hear this song without thinking of the irony of the lyrics

Hate baby hate
When there’s nothing left for you
You’re only human
What can you do
It’ll soon be over
Don’t let your pain take over you
Love baby love
It’s written all over your face
There’s nothing better we could do
Than live forever
Well that’s all we’ve got to do

Michael, you didn’t have to go. I wish you could’ve found a way to stay. But in your way you’ll live forever.
